{"id":835,"date":"2019-09-01T21:43:23","date_gmt":"2019-09-01T21:43:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nocrappyexcuses.com\/?p=835"},"modified":"2019-09-01T21:43:23","modified_gmt":"2019-09-01T21:43:23","slug":"rock-the-quarry-8-17-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nocrappyexcuses.com\/index.php\/2019\/09\/01\/rock-the-quarry-8-17-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Rock the Quarry &#8211; 8\/17\/19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"867\" src=\"https:\/\/nocrappyexcuses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/GoshenFinish.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-836\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nocrappyexcuses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/GoshenFinish.jpg 650w, https:\/\/nocrappyexcuses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/GoshenFinish-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Rock the Quarry was just &#8216;some race&#8217; that I happened to find on\nRunning in the USA.&nbsp; It was simply a\nreplacement race for having lost Naperville.&nbsp;\nBut after how much I enjoyed it last year, it was a definite race and\none I looked forward to.<br>\n<br>\nAs well, last year we were in a wave with a single other AWD (Athlete With\nDisability) participant.&nbsp; It was amazing\nthat they held the race until we were both out of the water.&nbsp; This yea, we were part of the normal AG\nwave.&nbsp; The M35-39 wave was large, and it\nwasn\u2019t a \u2018normal\u2019 start.&nbsp; To ensure that\nwe weren\u2019t swum over, Michael had us towards the back.&nbsp; We probably lost 45-60 seconds on the water\nentry because of how things were set up.<br>\n<br>\nOnce in the water, the swim went okay.&nbsp;\nThere was one point where swimmers from wave 4 (the next male wave)\ncaught up with us.&nbsp; When one of the\nparticipants from that wave swam right over me, I lost my stroke and then time\nhaving to restart in open water.&nbsp; Once I\nwas able to get re-started, we made our way back to the shore without incident.<br>\n<br>\nThere is quite a long run from swim out to the transition racks.&nbsp; After making it there, T1 went decently and\nwe headed out on the bike.&nbsp; The 15 miles\nwent by quickly with a couple interesting and one dangerous incident &#8212;<br>\n<br>\n1)&nbsp; As it\u2019s Amish country and there are\nopen roads, you can sometimes run into a horse and buggy.&nbsp; We did again this year and made the pass around\nboth it and the horses without any incident.&nbsp;\nA hoof to the bike can ruin your day\u2026<br>\n<br>\n2)&nbsp; Seeing the two AWD teams and their\nsupport teams on the course.&nbsp; As a ParaTriathlete,\nI love seeing other AWDs at these local races.&nbsp;\n<br>\n<br>\n3)&nbsp; One of the most important bike ones\nis ride right, pass left (unless specifically stated otherwise).&nbsp; That\u2019s important on any course, but\nespecially on this one where you do an S curve under a railroad trestle.&nbsp; Coming out of it going out, we had someone\npass us on the right-hand side.&nbsp; The\nasshat did that to someone else a bit further on as well.&nbsp; I really wish that Michael or I had gotten\nhis bib number.&nbsp; People like that should\nreally be Dqed.<br>\n<br>\nAlso on the bike, we passed a tremendous number of people.&nbsp; As in the past several races, we got the\nsmartass \u2018you\u2019re cheating\u2019 joke.&nbsp; If\nsomeone wants to trade me their 20\/20 eyes, I\u2019ll gladly give up the tandem\u2026&nbsp; But I won\u2019t hold my breath for that\u2026<br>\n<br>\nT2 went as well as T1, after which we made the long run onto the run\ncourse.&nbsp; Loop 1 went okay.&nbsp; However, on loop 2, the head and humidity\ntook its toll.&nbsp; It became a walk\/run,\nwith the last 1\/2 \u2013 3\/4 mile being in pain.<br>\n<br>\nWhile there were issues on the swim and run, I did still manage to shave about\n90 seconds off of my 2018 time.&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last year, Rock the Quarry was just &#8216;some race&#8217; that I happened to find on Running in the USA.&nbsp; It was simply a replacement race for having lost Naperville.&nbsp; But after how much I enjoyed it last year, it was a definite race and one I looked forward to.
